On June 21/1954, cooperation
agreement was signed by Ministry of Municipal and Rural
Affairs of Egypt and foreign Operation Department
(USA).
-
On Sep.23/1954, law 495 was issued
for the establishment of Building Research Institute (BRI),
as independent corporate organization.
-
Subject to this agreement BRI
conducted great number of studies and projects, related to
the state national plan, especially issues of ambient
environment and development national plans.
-
On 1964, NHBRC become exclusively
concerned with building researches, subject to the statute
of the National Research Center and was affiliated to the
Ministry of Scientific Research. Accordingly, the research
studies and projects were common between the center and the
said Ministry.
-
1971, cabinet decree 1871/1971
was issued for the center affiliation to the Ministry of Housing
and Construction.
-
On 1977, presidential decree 46/19977,
was issued for the establishment of National Housing,
Building physical planning Research center, as corporate
body, located in Cairo, as scientific institution and was
affiliated to the Ministry of Housing and
Reconstruction.
-
For coping with
development requirments it had to be upgraded with more
assumptions and restructuring.

Feb. 16/2005, presidential decree
63/2005 was issued for the reorganization of Housing and
Building research center to be the National Housing and
Building research center, having corporate body, under
Minister of Housing , Utilities and Urban Communities and
Cairo based. New branches in the governorates and the new
cities may be opened, subject to the center’s board decree.

Scope of work
-
Upgrading buildings architectural
designs and environmentally complying modern physical
planning techniques.
-
Study of building material
characteristics, resistence of different effects, efficiency for
different building purposes as well as quality control
processes for building and construction materials and
projects.
-
Developing structure theories in
the concrete, metallic, wooden and installed structural
designs.
-
Rehabilitation and evaluation of special and antiquity
structures.
-
Evaluation of the geotechnical
characteristic of soil formations, improving them by
different methods, and developing systems of foundation
design and construction and environmental impact
assessment.
-
Developing technology of building
material industry , evaluation of natural
processed raw materials, initiation of alternatives from
industrial and agricultural waste.

Evaluation of the thermo-audio
insulation of building materials, structures and the optimum
design of natural and industrial lighting ventilation and
air conditioning for energy
rationalization.

Evaluation and development of water
and sewage treatment plants their impact upon environment –
raising the technical and legislative efficiency of
construction engineering and project
management.

Laying design bases and executive
conditions of structural and building works- issue and
updating the codes and the specifications of items of
structural and building works and their relevant
training.

Preparation and development of
scientific and technical staff through training courses in
building and construction fields- provision of technical and
economic consultations for local and foreign building
projects.

Boosting
scientific ties and cooperation
with local, foreign and international institutions
and organisations in all centers’ activities ,
participation in the international conferences and fairs,
serving the center’s activities.
